Slow progress on this one. I would like to think I am almost done with this but still see areas I can go back and add to. I keep changing the way I work so whenever I come back to something after a long break it can get kind of disorienting. Back in '09 I was working on this and using different layers to keep every element separate in comparison to nowadays in where I work with only one or two at any given time. I had to go and merge everything down to one layer in order to make any sort of progress on this.

Continuing my progression on this one with Darkfong. Had a similar situation in where I felt that in order for me to make any headway on this it meant merging everything down to very few layers. I need to remember to put everything back in its proper order before passing this back to him.

Yes, the title is the actual file name. Started on this while waiting around for my flight to NYC over at LAX. I only had an hour so I managed to scribble something out while sitting over at a Burger King/Starbucks food court type thing. I didn't know if I was going to take the time to refine it but I took a look at it today and this was the result.

People think she looks like Maleficent, and I am not going to argue. I really didn't have anything particular in mind when I drew her out, and I think she's like a cross between Maleficent and the Asari.

Sai and Photoshop for this one. Probably would have been all Sai if I hadn't overlayed patterns and texture onto this one. This was mostly an experiment in painting a little differently; keeping some areas in focus while blurring, blending, and/or simplifying colors and shapes for things that were further back. Looking at it now I don't think it's really possible for her to be standing like that without falling over, oh well...she defies logic and gravity :P

I spent less time trying to make things right and went more on what felt right to me. I was off on some things (a friend pointed out earlier that her back leg was shorter than the other) but overall it was a little more fun to play with shapes and not worry so much if things were correct. Will definitely have to try more like this in the future when I'm feeling up to it :3

Currently working on a collaboration piece with Justin on my Nurse Lacey character :D I haven't drawn her in a long time and it's fun to come back to something familiar. Not to mention I always find it fun to work with my friends.

We're passing this one WIP back and forth so we can both add to this. The first image was what Justin started out with and the second was the stuff I noodled on. I'm excited to see the next reiteration of this from him :D

Working with Justin on the first one. I tried out his tablet PC during the weekend and that was the little sketch I came up with. So now we're kind of just going back and forth with it and hopefully something cool will result in this collaboration :P

Bought a sketchbook the other day during my trip back home (I was out of town for the weekend). Normally I prefer drawing digitally because I do less smearing and mess with my lines than when I'm drawing on paper but otherwise there's little to no difference in the way I approach things. Still, it was fun to do something a little different for a change and it's a good way to pass the time when I'm out and about somewhere.

My favorite drawing utensil to use would be a ball point pen; they smear the least for me when I work :D

Feeling quite happy at the progress I'm making with this. So far the coloring itself has taken less time than all the line work and that's really motivating for me. I'm usually really slow at it since I'm too indecisive and I second-guess myself often. Trying to get over that fear and just do it the way I want to without having to pay attention to making things look right.

Started coloring M-Jo but it wasn't turning out exactly the way I wanted. I didn't want to burn myself out so I'll try taking a break from it and trying it again. I think I was expecting something easy and quick like my Happy Holidays sketch but I almost always run into trouble once coloring is involved.

Hime Pirate Looooo was a long but rewarding undertaking. Kirby helped me out in the end by tweaking all the detail and shiny bits since I never seem to have patience for those.

Still exploring the compatibility in using Sai with my work. Pretty fun; I really like the fact that a lot of the keyboard shortcuts in Sai are the same as in Photoshop and that really makes it super easy for me to just dive in. Sometimes when I'm going back and forth between something like Flash and Photoshop I start mixing up shortcuts and I hate at how much time that can eventually waste.

Kirby installed Sai on our little netbook so I can actually sketch on it :D I think I prefer Sai over Photoshop when it comes to my linework but I also know I'm pretty lazy when it comes to using multiple programs. I like Photoshop since I can practically use that for almost everything so...I dunno.

Started a new sketch. I normally avoid drawing Alice in Wonderland type stuff; mostly because I feel that almost everyone at one point uses this as inspiration. But over on egl_comm_art it's one of the current contest themes and I felt inclined to try it out. I was going to ditch drawing Alice and go off on the loli bunny but I decided to give it another go and this second attempt at drawing her feels better to me.

Kind of a massive image post; mostly due to being lazy in keeping track of my progress.

Inspiration to color this hit me the other day when I was hanging out with Justin, Andre, and Tong and everyone was doing a bit of show-and-tell. Since I've been drawing mostly to decompress after a day of work I've been sticking to areas I'm familiar with so I haven't been challenging myself. But after we hung out it kind of gave me this newfound sense of inspiration and motivation to try and color this. I feel incredibly rusty doing this, BTW.

I almost lost it on the details; it almost was a pain in the ass to do since there's a lot of stuff happening in that border print. Also there's the pressure on wanting to do a good job since this is her dream dress and all.

I keep losing steam with my previous WIPs and so I start doodling at a new one while in the middle of it. The second one I didn't bother to save at a higher resolution since it's just a bunch of my sketch lines; this way you can kind of see the general picture rather than the details (lack thereof). On the first one there's a lot of contrast with the black and white which doesn't give off a nice whipped cream feel, but when I lighten it up it feels pretty good. Still debating whether or not to add the drippy stuff; on one hand it creates some interest up at the top in where I feel I left too much white space but on the other I dunno if it just makes it look too cluttered and/or messy.

I'm having fun drawing all the chibi people :D I initially wanted to create multiple pieces of everyone but the thought of that left me burnt out so I decided to create a collage-type thing instead. Lolita dresses take up so much space that I didn't want to have to fight for real estate which was why I went for the chibi route.

Trying to stay true to form with the dresses and the prints; it's not something I do very often.

Man, I hate drawing glasses T_T.

Lolita really skews with my proportions...still trying to figure that out. I tend to draw dresses with really high waists which kind of throw off where the legs should go and stuff. I find if I look at this for too long the limbs start feeling weird or off to me.

At first glance the two images look similar but I was actually stumped on how to solve the problem with the print on their dresses. The first one I lowered the opacity on the print pattern so it wasn't as strong of a focal point than the second image. It started to feel kind of jumbled and messy.

It probably doesn't look like there were any changes but I went and warped the horizontal pattern a little bit so it flows a little better. It doesn't bother me as much and I didn't feel like I destroyed all the work I put into the pattern. I also went and made another one for their socks and I think that also helps in balancing it all out. It sits better overall and I've got opacity for everything at 100%.

Finished the last of the hair so I can quit feeling uneasy about it :P

Starting to work on arms; something I find both fun and frustrating to do.

Ctrl+J has been my favorite shortcut to use on this so far (Copy layer).

I asked Kirby tonight if I should sew or draw since I was feeling 50/50 on both. He opted for the latter; mostly so he could get some work done on his music (sneaky!). But here she is all completed, YaY! I have two different versions of Photoshop between home and work with the latter being CS3 instead of CS4. For the most part this doesn't bother me. That is, until I started working on this one. During one of the color fixes Kirby applied some vibrancy layers so I could figure out the colors I wanted (more saturated) and it really helped...until I'd bring it over to work where CS3 wouldn't know what to do with those layers and thus drop them. It made for working back and forth kind of annoying; I had to save two versions...one with the vibrancy layer(s) and one without. I'd work on the one without the layers and if I needed to check something I'd open up the other version and then drag those layers onto the other one. In hindsight I probably could have optimized this process but I kind of got caught up in just completing it.

The name is just a little tongue-in-cheek by the way :P
